





The culture of living in wadas started way back in 1700. Mostly, The Wadas was under Peshwa rulers during the Maratha Empire. Where the officers and commoners used to live. The wadas of Pune, which once stood strong as the pillars of Pune’s rich culture and heritage, are now limping towards a tragic end. A wada is typically a large building of two or more stories with groups of rooms arranged around open courtyards. These traditional dwellings are slowly giving way to rapidly expanding modern housing structures. Unfortunately, some of these wadas today cannot be repaired or renovated, according to the civic body. Despite the uncertainties, the people here try to live a normal life. This photo story attempts to capture the core identity of the wadas of Pune.
